Then there was the US Postal Service. Next was telegrams and faxes. Then the internet took over and email became king. Today people can communicate instantaneously through text and even face to face video conferencing on their smartphones! Not to mention the popularity (and power) of video sharing sites like YouTube. But email doesn’t have to go the way of snail mail. In order to keep your online correspondences fresh and interesting, consider using video in your emails. It is a great alternative to the standard mass email update. Take Microsoft’s recent email about their famed Office products. Instead of a text based message to remind us all that, yes, Microsoft Office is still important, they went with short (1:50 – 2:30) videos showing what the process could have been like if Office products were used in creating some of history’s most memorable events.

President Obama used online videos during his campaign and he even used You Tube to make the official announcement that he was running for re-election.

However, unlike former politicians and a lot of professional online videos, Obama has had a bit of fun with his online clips. Check out the video from the 2011 Online Correspondents' Dinner. The fact that this clip has received more than 8 million views should prove the power of a little humor in your videos.
So how do you create humor in your video while retaining your professionalism and getting your message across? Here are some tips:

•	Consider taking acting lessons, a comedy class or ask a professional who has produced or directed funny pieces in the past for some tips.

•	What are you going to wear in your clip? Pull together some costumes or props.

•	Write a short and funny script or have one created. Run the jokes by colleagues and see if they deem them both funny and appropriate for the work environment.

•	Keep your first video under five minutes.

•	Stats show that you only have 10 seconds to capture the viewers attention, so get a joke in quickly to entice them to watch further.

•	Stuck on ideas? Try brainstorming with some of your funniest friends.

•	Don’t offend anyone with your jokes. Avoid ‘jokes’ with a racial or gender slant.

•	Upload your video onto your computer, and then online. Through sites such as YouTube, millions of people will have viewing access to your funny video. Alternatively, you can post your video on social networking sites like Facebook (www.facebook.com).

The bottom line is if a politician can make a funny video, so can you. Don’t assume that all professional videos should be dry. If you add in some humor, there is a better chance people will watch and circulate your video.

IVS Wins Two Silver Davey Awards for Loeb & Loeb and Vita Coco Videos

Click below to see our Press Announcement

Take an Israeli technology company, Interlude, owned by a lovely guy, Yoni Bloch, who we met a few months back, mix in a former music exec, Steven Greenberg, who now owns independent label S-Curve Records, and add in an unknown, adorable, Harry Connick, Jr. sound-alike, with a great hook in his song "Keep Your Head Up" and throw in sponsor Old Navy to make this all happen and voilà, you've got a new industry called "Branching Video Technology". You choose which way the action happens - I wrote about this a few months back when we first saw it in NY.

The corporate and commercial possibilities are amazing. Watch the video, create your own story, repeat. Imagine how businesses could get into the heads of their customers or clients by watching the choices made.

From an SEO perspective, it can help boost your search results. From a content perspective, it can be informative and engaging for clients as well as internally for employees. However, there are some factors you may want to consider when deciding on your video options.

In a recent ReelSEO article entitled "5 Reasons Why Viewers Might Abandon Your Video," author Tim Schmoyer discusses factors that may lead people to click away from your video. These issues can be addressed from the start of the process and should not be overlooked!
The article talks about keeping your video under 3 minutes in order to engage viewer's short attention span. Schmoyer also stresses that your video has to be passionate and have some direction. It is important to understand the flow of your piece before filming and make sure your speakers are prepared and knowledgeable about their topic.
Don't settle for a cookie cutter or poor quality video. Your piece should be unique to your firm. Let the quality of your video and the insight presented reflect the professional nature of your firm and its clients.

Music Makes The Movie

Great WSJ article from last week about the scoring of the film "The Social Network". The article discusses how the music needed to complete the characters in a way that "provided commentary". The composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, of Nine Inch Nails fame, talk about the challenge of scoring a film with little action. The film is about the creation of a business, Facebook, and the music keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. Read the full article here.

In corporate videos many clients shy away from using music, concerned it will overpower the content. The key is to use the right music at the right volume to enhance rather than detract from the visuals or the interviews.

Since the new email layout was implemented, video viewership has increased 118% and traffic to the website is up 30%. Though you can't base the astounding results completely on the new email campaign, the company has spoken to their distribution partners and all have requested more videos.
